The tiny island of Hin Mu Sang, lying 25km east of Phuket, was
first dived in the late 70's from longtail boats by Santana
founder and owner Horst Hinrichs. Upon seeing it's numerous
resident leopard sharks he dubbed it "Shark Point", and the name
has been in common use ever since.
Actually the dive Shark Point site consists of 3
pinnacles. "Shark Point 1" is the northern-most, the one that
breaks the surface. Next comes "Shark Point 2", rising to a depth
of 7 meters, and further south lies "Shark Point 3", rising to 10
meters. All three scuba diving Thailand dive Shark Point
pinnacles can be explored within the same dive.
The sharks are still found these days, typically lying on the
sandy bottom, but there are many more treasures to be discovered
during your scuba diving Thailand dive Shark Point day trips. You
are likely to see moray eels, lionfish, scorpionfish,
porcupinefish, and different clownfish and triggerfish on every
dive. If you are lucky Santana's guides will find you one or two
tigertail seahorses amongst the soft corals.

The coral at Shark Point is impressive. Giant gorgonian sea fans
sway next to pink basket sponges. Magnificent anemones and
clownfish are found in great numbers, reminiscent of nearby
Anemone Reef.
Santana's scuba diving
Thailand Phuket day trips visit Shark Point 2 or 3 times a week,
all year round, in conjunction with 1 or 2 more dives at other
classic sites in the area such as scuba Phuket dive Anemone Reef or the dive
King Cruiser wreck . Check Santana's Phuket Thailand diving Phuket daytrips calendar for details and prices.
